The current state of engaging healthcare professionals.

In Mexico there are no official legislations yet , when it comes to telemedicine. Therefore, many HPC’s are left in the dark. For them it is difficult to learn about the new ways of meeting and how to deal with privacy compliance (such as HIPAA). Some practices have managed to move online, but for many online consulting is still the odd one out.

Tools used: Stakeholder interviews, Context research

Remote Interviewing

We used video conferencing to interview HCP’s in Mexico. It took about 45 minutes per session to really learn about their struggles, desires, and expectations when in comes to online consultation of patients. From these interviews, supported by desk research we distilled 8 chapters explaining how to set up a telemedicine practice.

When to use

Not every profession in healthcare can work with telemedicine. Take a surgeon as obvious example. Yet, also for psychiatrist it might sometimes be impossible to move online due to the patients mental stability. Therefore, there should be general guides for when to host a session online, and each case should be looked at individually.

Diagnostics at Home

Of course there are cases where it is impossible to consult the patient from home, because certain diagnostic need to be taken. However, in this digital age, many people already have healthcare devices at home. Whether it’s a separate device or an mobile app, both can help to diagnose a patients conditions over distance.

The profesional Look

Many people imagine that while working from home, the professional look is not a necessity anymore. Yet, for HCP it is of outmost importance, their look, or white coat, gives them a level of professionalism and trustworthiness. Which is something all patient can appreciate.
